Biography:
George S. Round served as the director of the University of Nebraska public relations office from 1945 to 1973. Round was
born in Ord, Nebraska, and received a B.S. in agriculture from the University of Nebraska. He began his professional career
at the University in 1933 as the agriculture extension editor. Round assisted in the establishment of radio programs and two
television programs, including "University Speaks" and "Backyard Farmer." The latter is still aired on Nebraska Educational
Television and Radio. Round died in March 1992 at 84 years.
Scope and Content:
Between 1973 and 1982, George Round conducted oral history interviews with about 300 individuals connected to the development
of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, agriculture, and the state of Nebraska. The oral histories cover the time period from
1910 to 1973. The original interviews were recorded on reel-to-reel tapes and cassette tapes, with selected interviews transferred
to cassette tape. Please note that not all interviews have transcriptions and some transcripts do not have associated audio
components. The materials are arranged alphabetically.
